Varicose socks, also known as medical elastic socks, look little different from ordinary socks, but varicose socks are a medical treatment equipment. The purpose of varicose socks is to reduce the symptoms of varicose veins in lower limbs, restore the function of lower limb veins after surgery, help eliminate various postoperative edema, and promote wound healing. How to choose varicose socks? Can I wear elastic socks casually? How long do varicose socks last a day?
What is varicose sock？
Varicose socks are a kind of product that can promote venous blood to return to the heart, a kind of medical instrument to prevent and alleviate varicose diseases, not ordinary socks. However, WIN@TEX reminded everyone that only the “varicose socks”, which have been strictly approved and certified by the State Food and Drug Administration, have the effect of preventing and relieving varicose veins, but cannot play a therapeutic role.
Working principle of varicose socks
Varicose socks establish the maximum support pressure at the ankle, and Lihui gradually decreases upward along the leg, to 70% – 90% of the maximum pressure at the calf belly and 25% – 45% of the maximum pressure at the thigh. This decreasing change can make the venous blood flow back to the lower limb, effectively relieving or improving the pressure on the veins and venous valves of the lower limb.
Eliminate lower limb edema of pregnant women in late pregnancy, and prevent varicose veins and deep vein thrombosis of women’s lower limbs after childbirth.Therefore, wearing varicose socks frequently can reduce the discomfort of lower limb distension and prevent varicose veins of lower limb for workers who stand, sit and work hard for a long time, eliminate lower limb edema of pregnant women in late pregnancy, and prevent varicose veins of lower limb and deep vein thrombosis of women after childbirth.
It should be pointed out that the “varicose socks”, which are strictly approved and certified by the State Food and Drug Administration, have the effect of preventing and relieving varicose veins, but generally have no obvious therapeutic effect on varicose veins that have occurred.
What are the pressure models of elastic socks？
Primary low pressure prevention and health care type (15 – 20mmHg): applicable to the health care and prevention of people with high incidence of varicose veins and thrombosis.
Primary treatment type of secondary middle pressure (20 – 30mmHg): applicable to patients at the initial stage of varicose veins.
Third level high pressure moderate treatment type (30 – 40mmHg): applicable to patients with obvious varicose veins in the lower limbs (venous vessels protrude from the skin surface when standing) and discomfort in the legs (such as lower limb acid deficiency and swelling, eczema pruritus, cramping and numbness, pigmentation, etc.), phlebitis, severe varicose veins during pregnancy, patients after varicose vein surgery (saphenous vein stripping), and patients with deep vein thrombosis syndrome;
Grade IV high pressure severe treatment type (40-50mmHg): applicable to patients with high swelling of lower limbs, ulcers, skin darkening and hardening, high lymphedema, and recovery after plastic liposuction.
How to choose the right varicose socks？
1. Choose according to leg symptoms
We should choose the right varicose sock pressure according to our leg symptoms- Class II low pressure prevention and health care type, applicable to the health care and prevention of varicose veins and people with high incidence of thrombosis. The primary treatment type of secondary middle pressure is suitable for patients with obvious varicose veins in the lower limbs and discomfort in the legs. The third level high pressure moderate treatment type is suitable for patients with high swelling of lower limbs, ulcers, skin darkening and hardening, high lymphedema, and recovery after plastic liposuction.
2. Select the length according to the lesion location
The length of varicose socks includes middle socks (below the knee), stockings (and thighs), pantyhose (and waist). If the wearer only has varicose veins below the knee, it is OK to wear middle varicose socks. If the wearer also has symptoms above the knee, it is necessary to wear long socks or pantyhose varicose socks.
3. Select the model according to the leg size
Varicose socks are divided into small size S, medium size M, large size L and large size XL. When purchasing, the three main dimensions (cm) of the wearer’s leg should be measured: the circumference of the ankle (the thinnest part of the ankle), the maximum circumference of the calf belly and the maximum circumference of the thigh to determine the appropriate number. When purchasing pantyhose, the number should be selected according to the wearer’s height and weight.
