Socks are a part of our everyday life. Whether you walk, run or jump, it is inevitable that your socks will wear out. Here are six tips to help you take care of your socks and keep them in top condition for months and years to come.
Wash Them Inside Out
Most people just throw their socks in the washing machine. Although this method saves time it is not good for the socks. So what should we do?
Firstly they need to be washed from the inside out. Washing machines are very convenient, but they are also rough on fabrics. By turning the socks over you will be able to maintain the color, appearance, and smoothness of your customized socks.
Wash Them Separately
Also, when washing, take care: wash them separately. One, so that the zips and other hangings of other clothes don’t scratch them, and two, so that bacteria from your feet don’t pass on to other clothes, especially underwear.
Use the Cold Wash Setting
Too high a temperature can damage the fabric of your socks, so it is best to wash them in cold water. It may also cause your socks to shrink, making them no longer fit. To avoid this, always wash your socks in cold water (30°C).
Don’t Use Harsh Chemicals to Wash Them
Never use harsh chemicals in the wash. When you have a great pair of bespoke socks, you want to be able to show off those vibrant colors. However, harsh chemicals like bleach can wear down or even ruin the color of your socks. Therefore, simply use a small amount of mild detergent in the wash.
Hang Dry Your Socks
As we mentioned above, too high a temperature can damage socks, so it should be avoided if possible. If you want your socks to last, do not put them in the dryer. Instead, just dry them. If you must put them in the dryer, use the low-temperature tumble dry setting.
Don’t Iron Your Socks
What you might not think is that ironing is the worst thing you can do to your socks. This is because the fabric used in socks is very flammable, which makes them very dangerous. In most cases, you will find that you don’t need to iron your socks at all and the creases will usually disappear on their own after you have been wearing them for a while.
Don’t Roll Your Socks
To organize their socks, most people choose to roll them together. However, this practice can actually damage your bespoke socks. Over time, it causes the elastic band to stretch, which prevents them from fitting properly. Instead, simply folding your socks up will prevent this from happening.
